Ty Herndon
Right About Now
(Titan Pyramid)
OVERALL GRADE: B+
1. "Someday Soon" (3:53)
--Although he sounds whiny on the opening track, it fits the song perfectly. The beginning
of the song is the best part, as the other verses seem to drag on until the chorus returns the song to awesome-sounding. A
couple other minor flaws are the background echos towards the end and the somewhat abrupt ending of the words "someday soon."
Overall, its a pretty good song.
2. "In The Arms of The Woman Who Loves Me" (4:01)
--"In The Arms" is a slower song that could get boring on repeat. It's good first listen
though, his voice is definatley not hard to listen to on this.
3. "You Still Owe Me" (3:12)
--This is a really great track. The melody is cool and his voice really shines through.
The song will seem to fly by because of the fast singing, but its bearable with the slower melody.
4. "Mighty Mighty Love" (3:53)
--This song takes you back to the early 1990's country, yet it has a modernized feel
to it. Ty's voice fits perfectly and it would take a while to get bored with this song. It seems that this pure country song
should be loved by all country fans.
5. "Right About Now" (3:15)
--The title track and lead single off of Right About Now, this is one of the
slower songs. But the lyrics really shine and his vocals proove to be awesome as they hit the high notes throughout the song
perfectly.
6. "Love Revival" (3:29)
--From the first couple seconds this seems like the low point of the album. But as it
progresses, you'll find this song grow on you, and you might find yourself tapping your foot, even if it is a mid-tempo song.
Not the best song in the world, but by far not the worst.
7. "Hide" (3:56)
--The lyrics may be the strong suit of "Hide." It starts soft and throws all the emotion
at you in the chorus. Its amazing how some artists can produce slow songs and have it drag on forever, when great singers
like Ty can get you hooked on the same song. A plus is the later parts of the song with the guitars and te changing melody.
8. "Mercy Line" (3:34)
--Ty once again fails to disappoint with "Mercy Line." Its got a nice soul groove to
it, a nice change to an already awesome album. Then they top it all off by sprinkling stellar guitars throught the song.
9. "We Are" (4:15)
--This may be the low point of this fantastic album. You can only get a song to go so
slow before it gets boring. "We Are" is a good song, but you might find yourself skipping over this song to prevent yourself
from falling asleep.
10. "If I Could Only Have Her Love Back" (5:04)
--This is another small disappointment but it picks up through the song. The instrumentation
comes in to backup Ty's already outstanding voice, but this song still feels like it is missing something. Whatever it is,
it doesn't present itself throughout the 5+ minutes.
11. "There Will Be A Better Day" (4:09)
--This song is just not made for Ty for one reason: the vocals are meak. While he usually
shines on slower songs, he fails to make this bearable. He does get those high notes though and the lyrics are good.
